Pelvic Health Physiotherapy (Pelvic Physio) addresses issues of pelvic floor dysfunction. Surrounding pregnancy and the post-partum period, common issues involve pelvic girdle pain (pain anywhere in the pelvic area), urinary or fecal incontinence (leakage of urine or feces accidentally), pain with intercourse, low back pain, leg pain, pubic symphysis pain, diastasis recti/diastasis rectus abdominis (DRA or ab separation) or pelvic organ prolapse. Hi, I’m Sara and I’m so glad to be here. Physiotherapy is my profession but pelvic health is my passion. I graduated from the physiotherapy program at McMaster University in 2014 and quickly began a career in general orthopaedic physiotherapy. I took my first pelvic health course shortly after that and was quickly hooked. Working so closely with women (and men too!), educating them about their pelvic health became my full time job! Since then, I have completed several specialized pelvic health courses, focusing on rehabilitating a part of the body that often goes ignored and neglected. My favourite population to work with quickly became women during pregnancy and their postpartum period. Seeing women through this exciting and challenging time, providing them with resources, information, exercises and tools is a job I love. I, myself, have now gone through this process twice, bringing two wonderful little girls into the world. I have seen first hand how pelvic health physiotherapy can assist through pregnancy and postpartum recovery. I’m very excited to be a part of the SBPT team and work alongside these midwife groups. I look forward to meeting you soon!
